Successful business Pradeep Walia has always had the ability to overcome adversity. After all, not just anyone could come to the United States from Calcutta, India with $20 in their pocket and establish and run a successful $20 million software company in less than a decade. However, that is not what brings him the most pleasure. What makes him fell the best is when he is able to show others how to pull themselves out of poverty using the capitalist system.
That is why Pradeep Walia’s current focus is on philanthropy. He likes to give in a way that does the most good for those who really need it. Through the Pradeep Walia Foundation, he launched a number of India-based NGOs tasked with helping the poor use capitalist tools to raise their own station in life. One of his NGOs, Jimba, makes micro-loans to the poor in India and gives them assistance with using it. Put simply, Pradeep Walia still believes in capitalism, but he’s focusing his entrepreneurship on giving his money away to the best effect. If nothing else, Pradeep Kumar Walia has shown that he is very resilient. Throughout his life, he has demonstrated a great ability to overcome adversity. Just look at when he came to the United States from Calcutta, India with barely $20. Despite having nothing when he got here, he managed his resources well enough to obtain a stellar education, first with an undergraduate degree from Slippery Rock University and then a Masters in Business Administration from Carnegie-Mellon University. Both of those are first class universities.
That wasn’t the end of the inspirational story, however. Within a few years of obtaining his MBA, he established and built his own company, Atlas Software, into a $20 million tech success story. That valuation came less than a decade after arriving here with $20. It’s hard to turn $20 into $20 million in less than ten years, but Pradeep Walia did exactly that. However, as good as he is at making money for himself, his primary focus has always been on others. Back in the days when he couldn’t afford to donate money, he donated his time. These days, he uses his entrepreneurial skills to help those less fortunate to make money to lift themselves out of poverty. He also works with NGOs and other organizations in their efforts to improve healthcare delivery in underserved areas. Money comes and goes, but life experiences are forever. This is a motto for the life of Pradeep Kumar Walia. Many people set their lives on a course that they believe will bring them the most income. The idea that they have in their head is that they can attain enough money to make them happy; even studies have shown that this is not the truth. Once one makes enough money to sustain themselves, the rest comes from the choices you make and the relationships you develop.
As soon as Pradeep Kumar Walia came to the United States, he started working on his education. Not to bring himself success, but so that he could help others with what he earned. He graduated from Slippery Rock University with a degree and immediately set out to find a job. He founded Atlas Software and began working there. During this time, he also began expanding his education by earning his Master’s in Business Administration from CMU. Once he finished his degree, he then move to the nonprofit sector. He found that while he enjoyed his time at Atlas Software, he wanted to do more to impact the world around him. While working in the nonprofit sector, Pradeep Kumar Walia was able to fulfill his life motto of making money and then giving it away. He continues to practice this motto as he grows and flourishes in his career and feels lucky that he gets to work in a job that gives him so much joy from the people it impacts. Pradeep Walia has had times of success and times of struggle throughout his life. He lived through three recessions, but regardless of the hardship, he has managed to bounce back every time. Pradeep Walia came to the United States seeking education and career success. He graduated from Slippery Rock University. After that, he started his own business, Atlas Software.
